The King’s speech at the, opening of tihe Glasgow Exhibition on May 3 will be relayed to Empire stations, and possibly throughout the world.

Mr T. Clarke. Railways Department, Greynumth, has received notice of transfer to Addington Worshops, Christchurch. He will take up his new duties about the middle of next month.

Mr J. T. Rothwell, who has been on the clerical staff, Public Works Department, Greymouth, for the past four years, has received i(atice of transfer, as Clerk-in-Charge at Aniseed, North Canterbury and lie -will take up his, early next month. He will be replaced at Greymouth by Mr V. Montgomery, of Tauranga. Mr Rothwell is secretary of the Greymouth Bowling Club and secretary ,of the West Coast Bowling Centre.

Dr Maurice Laserson, of Geneva, an extensively travelled journalist, . at present on a world tour, travelled from Inchbonnie t#> Waiho yesterday by plane, and was to make a further flight from Waiho to Weheka this morning. Dr Lasgrson, wh 0 has travelled in 38 countries, gave an address to several guests at,.the morning reception held by the Canterbury. Travel Club in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Mr S. E. West, has been appointed by the Greymouth Borough Council to the position of Assistant Drainage Engineer. Mr West, who, is at present in charge of. the construction of the Grey River Dredge at Ikamatua for Anderson’s Ltd., was assistant engineer to the Hamilton Borough Council from 1925 to 1937, and as-sistant-engineer on loan to the Taihape Borough Council in 1934. There were fourteen applications for the position.
