WELLINGTON, September 13. “It is quite evident that these children had n° business to he where they were,” said the Coroner at the inquest on the death of Lilian Conn, aged seven, who was struck bv the engine of the Napier-AVellington express on September 2nd. on the railway bridge at Kaiwarra. The engine driver of the express said lie saw children on the bridge. Apparently they were crawling across on their hands and knees. He .applied the emergency brake immediately.

Another witness described liow one girl reached the far side of the bridge in safety.

The .finding was that the girl was accidentally killed as the result of being knocked over hv a locomotive, no blame being attributable to the engine driver!
