HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. Mr T. W. Duff presided over the monthly meeting of the Vvesth.iui Hospital Board held last evening at 8 n’ciock the following members being present: Messrs K. L. Lark, J. A. Murdoch, A. it. Jill cock, W. A. Jtvciuien, K. W: Heeiian, W. A. Jamieson, A. Dale and IN. H. Blown and F. AlcCaue. (secretary). An apology for absence was made for Mr H. i. Larry. The minutes of the previous meeting Wore read and confirmed and outward correspondence read and approved. Inward Correspondence. From the Department of Health, with, regard to motor accident cases in hospital.—Received. From same, re orders for sera etc. Received. From same, regarding infirm immigrants. —Received. From the Hospital Boards Association, re section 92 of the Act. —Received ; no action to be taken. Same regarding treatment and relief of Maoris.—Received. Same with regard to maintenance orders for protection of Hospital Boards. —Received. From South Westland Medical Association, re erection of casualty stations and agreeing that such a station was not urgently required at W click a ami suggesting that a small portable; building be equipped and maintained to meet the position there. —Received. Mr N. H. Brown, secretary of the South- Westland Medical Association said it was very unfortunate that m> action had been taken in the matter since the men at Bruce Bay had been contributing since August Ist to a service which had not been provided and there was keen disappointment that no move had been made to provide such a service. Ivarangarua seemed to be the present centre for men employed in southern works and he thought it. might be advisable to establish a portable building there which kept equipped and maintained could be removed to other places as required. •The employees of the Brn o Rav sawmill wore also anxious to participate in the scheme on similar conditions and receive the same benefits. Tt was resolved to make further endeavours to speed the action in the matter. From Kumara Medical Association. —Received. 1 It was resolved that, the chairman visit Kumara to confer with members of the Medical Assy-v.ition. with, a view to ascertaining whether or not a doctor would bo appointed for Ivu mara. From Frank Freitas, regarding. ..rent. of garage.—Received. Tt was resolved that the. garage rented to the applicant at a woek’v rental of 5/- temporarily until it vie ascertained what would be done with the building. From the State Advances Corp ration, forwarding loan of £9956/1’ 5/-.--Re^eived. From Cashmere Sanatorium, reporting on patients.—Received. • The matron (Miss M. E. Anderson’s' report for the month of August ivas submitted as follows : - The highest number of beds on anyone day was 57. lowest 48, average -o the month 54.2. Number of N-rnvs 52, operations 44, screenings l. massage and electrical treatment 194. Resignations: Nurse' Lindop, G. R<> 1 gcrsA;Avery. Holidays due to Nurses M; Ward and Fowler. Tennis court: I would he very grateful if at this meeting the Board cou’e finalise the laying down of the Nursed Tennis Court. At present there is in hand from the proceeds |of the Canteen Fund the sum of £22/18/- and further amounts from this source would he available from time to time to pay for the construction of the court. The work would be required to he put in hand right away in order to be ready for play this season. Sister Gillespie will be commmmarduties as Tutor Sister as from Ist (September, 1937. —Received and adopted Medical Superintendent’s Re drt. Dr Basil L. Wilson, Medical Superintendent, submitted his report for the month of August as follows:—Remaining in Hospital 31st July, 1937, 55; admitted during the month of August, (53; treated during the month, 118; discharged during the month, 67 ; remaining, in Hospital 31st August, 1937, 51. Received and adopted. The Finance and House Committees reports and the Engineers report were read- and adopted. Accounts amounting to £1337/0/0 in li nance Committee were passed ior payment.

Treasurer’s Statement. The Treasurer submitted his report on Receipts and Expenditure for the month, of August as follows ' Receipts £1609/19/2, Expenditure £1394/5/3, debit balance in bank. £648/17/4.— Received and adopted.
