ALLOWANCE' 5 ' 1 (Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON, August 12. Pleasure was expressed to-night by the Minister for Pensions, the Hon W. E. Parry, at the payments from pensions received by the authorities controlling public homes and hospitals to the inmate-pensioners of the different institutions. The Minister said that some pensioners in the hospitals had written mentioning that they liked to have a few shillings now and atm in to meet obligiations they bad outside the institution which maintained them, and the payments now made from their pensions which the authorities collected were welcomed and appreciated. “T find from information now before • me.” Mr Parry stated, “that the controlling bodies of all but five hospitals and homes of the Dominion are making a payment to these pensioners. One can well imagine how welcome that payment is to the pensioner, who loves to feel once, again a few shillings in his pocket. I think that the management of these hospitals merit full praise for their action—it certainly receives it from the pensioners in the institutions.”

The Minister said that the hospitals not making the payments supplied clothing and tobacco. He hoped that all would see the reasonableness and magnanimity of making some grant to the inmate-pensioner.
