The funeral of the centenarian, Mrs Catherine Beaufill took place yesterday afternoon, and was attended by many friends. The Rev. W. E. D. Davies conducted the services at All Saints’ Church and the graveside.

The Military ball in the Soldiers’ Hall last evening attracted a large attendance. The music was supplied hy the Victorian Dance Rand, and a capital supper was provided by Prestons. Dancing was continued till an early hour.

On Tuesday evening, when motorcycling towards Greymouth, near the cemetery hill a young man, Trevor Henderson, ran into a mob of cattle being driven by Mr T. Staines. The young man was thrown off his cycle into a ditch, but luckily escaped any serious injury.

If the timber is worth tapping and shows promise of n decent return to the nation, it will be favourably considered. Hut we must be quite confident that it is justifiable to spend money on development there.’’
