SOCIALISTS GAIN SLIGHTLY

TOKIO, May 1. The Japanese Diet elections were held, but met with apathy. A general feeling is that the* appeal to the country was artificial.
The early figures suggest an “as you were” position.- > The auti-Government, Liberal, Minseito, Agrarian, Sciyukai parties are maintaining their dominating position, with eighty per cent of the seats. The chief change is thafl with the Socialists, they doubling their strength with forty seats.
