WOMAN MISSING

WELLINGTON, May 2.

When the Rangatira arrived at Wellington this morning from Lyttelton the police were advised of tae disappearance on the voyage of Mrs Pulton, a first-class passenger travelling'with her nusband, who, it is believed, lives near Wanganui. Mrs Fulton, it is stated, was returning from Hanmer, and because of the condition of her nerves her husband was accompanying lipr. They occupied a twoberth deck cabin and retired some time after IT p.m. like stewardess who « . • went to the cabin at about 6.30 a.m. found Mrs Fulton’s berth unoccupied. A search of the ship was and it is thought that the woman left the cabin withoqt her, husband’s knowledge some time after, u. p.m. and was lost overboard.

Tragedy attended the opening of the duck shooting season ;,in Wairara'pa on Saturday, a John Reginald Cole, aged-17, dying, in the Greytown as v a . Result of a gunshot wound. He was shooting in a reserve a few miles-from Featherston, with a party of other sportsmen, on Saturday morning. It appears that his gun was discharged when his- dog jumped up at him, the shot injuring his arm,and entering bis armpit, . He was taken to the Greytown Hospital, where the arm was amputated land be died the same afternoon. He -was a son of Mr and Mrs G. T.. Cole, ,of / Western Lake, Featherston. An inquest will be held.

EXPLOSION IN BIG OVEN

WELLINGTON, May 2. With a loud report a big oven on display at the Wellington Coronation Show exploded on Saturday night and injured the demonstrator, J. H. Brewer, a cook, who was taken to hospital with concussion and a scalp wound. The explosion strained the sides, blew a gaping hole in the top of the oven, which stood higher than the man, and sent a shower of fluffy white particles of insulation material into the air. It also burst open the door in front, which it is thought, struck Brewer on the head.

, WANGANUI, May 2. ’ A r When his car left the road; near Marton on Saturday, John James Tylee, aged 83, a, retired farmer, received head injuries from which he died soon alter removal to his home. A neighbour, Mrs George Black, who was a passenger in the car, received minor' cuts about the face. Medical opinion suggests that a heart seizure was the cause of the accident.

INQUEST.

CRASH AT BIG BAY

INVERCARGILL, May 1. An inquest was held to-day before Mr J. Ward, J.P., and a jury of four into the death of Walter Sutton Jones, a journalist, aged 21 i who was killed when an aeroplane crashed at Big Bay, South Westland, on December 30. Evidence was given by the pilot, A. J. Bradshaw, and passengers in the machine. Bradshaw said that when preparing to land the machine stalled. He attempted to gain control, hut the low altitude made this imposs'ble. The jury found that Walter Sutton Jones met his death when an aeroplane piloted by Bradshaw crashed.

Mr R. C. Kean,’ Chief Inspector of Aircraft, indicated that a departmental'inquiry would be held later.
