PRISONERS RIOT
IN ONTARIO GAOL. (United Press Association—By ElectnQ Telegfaph—Copyright). GUELPIJ (Ontario), January 17, „ Provincial and city police have been' rushes! to the Ontario reformatory, where the prisoners are reported to have seized complete control after & riot, in which blankets and mattress©# were burned and lights smashed. Several persons were injured. It is believed that 25 convicts escaped. A later message says that according’ to the police the situation was under' control at midnight. After tLL interior of the prison had been scores of prisoners escaped and are roaming the countryside. One official .said: “I am sure every prisoner who- wished to escape did so, but a check .is impossible until the morning.” Three guards were injured, none seriously, and several convicts were overcome and treated in the prison infirmary. The police used tear gas, but, it was ineffective, as nearly all tha windows had been broken, permitting the gas to escape. The riot started at noon, when 7Cfo prisoners refused to out, and continued for 12 hours.
