LONDON, January 18, The naval correspondent of the “Morning Post” understands that the construction of eight—cruiserswill be authorised in the coming financial year, making the 1937 cruiser programme the biggest since the emergency war programme of 1916-17. Tn addition. three battleships aie likely to be laid down which, with the two laid down on January 1. nil! provide a class of five 33,000 ton ships, armed with 14 inch guns. Japan has not yet agreed to the 14in limit, but the new battleships are required primarily to offset the German ship building, which are designed to mount, llin and 14in guns.
