SOCIALISTS
A PROGRAMME ISSUED. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, January 17. A conference of the three bodies concerned approved tire formation of a united front of the Socialist League, Independent Labour Party, and. the Communist Party. A manifesto issued by the United Front announces the programme, which includes: Unity of all sections in the working class movement; The abolition of the means test; The introduction of a 40-hour week in industry and the public service; Paid holidays and higher wages, especially in the cotton, mining, and sweated trades; Pensions of 20s a week at 60; The nationalisation of mining; Control of the banks and the Stock Exchange; and Making the rich pay for social amelioration. TiTe signatories include Sir Stafford Cripps, Mr Harry Politt, Mr W. Gallaeher, Mr James Maxton, and Mr A. Fenner Brocltway. “The Times,” in a leadihg article, declaring that the triple union is really a rebellion against the Labour Party, says the speciously constructed manifesto does not hide the central fact that the United Front is strikingfrom within and without at the control of the Labour movement.
