SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP

On behalf of the Wellington Navy League, Captain Oliver, of the Naval Board, to-day presented a Union Jack to St. Matthew's school in recognition of its secondary department attaining one hundred per cent, membership 01 the Navy League. A large company was present, including Sir James Grose, Mr L. 0. H. Tripp and other representatives of the Wellington Navy League and Mr J. Robertson, M.P. In an address Captain Oliver urged the need of deferiding Empire communications. He spoke of the Navy as a great force for peace, with a fine record of humanitarian achievement, and he declared also that the maintenance of forces adequate to defend the Empire was the condition of its continued existence.
