FALSE PRETENCES
SEVERAL CHARGES MADE. (Per Press Association.—Copyright). Wellington, November 11. in the ebridig-t of a competition fprrwhich a motor car was offered as the prize, were alleged at the Magistrate’s Court against Harold Fairchild Pobar, an agent, Bertram Egley, a company secretary, and Hannath Nnetsßlake Marshall, a company director. Five charges were made against them foijitly. . Thb principal charge wa s that between July 16, 1935, and March 31, 1936, the defendants conspired with - each < other in Wellington and other places to defraud such persons as,should he induced to purchase tickets in a 'sk?il test competition, by falsely representing a car was a\ ailable as a prize, without disclosing the fact that ■the’!ear was subject to an instrument by way of security, securing the principal sum of C 159, and by representing the car was new, arid being kept sealed. There were four other charges, that defendants by the same, false/ pretences obtained from John' Leith 1/-, from John Johnston Henderson, sixpence, on two occasions and from Hen’ry Gastein sums totalling £l. There were twenty-five witnesses and the hearing is expected to last till tomorrow.

Douglas Aubrey Park, clerk in the Supreme Cotirt bffice, produced an instrument by way of security registered on August, 1935, granted by Edward Jones to Guarantors Ltd., affecting a 1 ear wijjth/.engine, number AV.F.7151.
