PROVIDENCE (Rhode Island)
November 8
One of the most complicated radio., engineering jobs yet attempted—a two-way -conversation between officials speedihg in stream-lined traius in. .Germany and New England, was a complete success. The announcer in Germany spoke: by special shofi’t-wave facilities aboard a Berlin train doing 90 miles an hour. The signals were picked up along the line, sent by a special wire to the giant trans-oceanie shortwave radio station at Berlin, relayed to R.C.A. Communications, at -Rocky Point, Long Island, then to -Radio City, the master controlroom in New York, then to station WBC, Boston, where they were put on tho air over the station 50 kilo-., watt; transmitter at Millis, Massa-, chusetts. They were picked up bv a Boston train doing 80 miles an hour.
Other conversations on the same programme were picked up by a submarine under the Hudson river, a cruising police car- in Cleveland, the steamship Normandie, and an aeroplane over San Fransisco Bay.
