Mr EdWafd Ball arc), the circus pi'olnotor, who was said to have accumulated a fortune Variously estimated at from twenty to one hundred million dollars, was shot dead by Robert A'exandei’j his former partner, Alexander then committed suicide. The tragedy followed a quarrel over money. The late Mr Ballard, who was sixtythree years iff. age, began.operating a bowling alley in a hotel. He then acquired the hotel. Next he developed a chain of hotels., Then he entered the circus business.

At one time it is said Mr Ballard owned ell, except one, of America’s leading circuses, which he sold shortly before the depression. Mr Ballard made a gift to the Jesuit Order in 1934, of an hotel, which had formerly been valued at seven million dollars.
