ACTRESS SURRENDERS WEALTH NEY IORK, July 15. Eisie Janis. who was famous as an actress on both sides of Atlantic up till ID or 12 years ago, intends to dispose of all her worldly possessions and help the poor. Miss Janis (born Bierbower) says slip is taking - this step as a result of divine inspiration. Rlie has started selling her vast, historic estate. The Manor House, at 1 arryt''wu, New York, where she iuow living, and will devote the rest of her life to charitable work. Miss Janis, who is 47. had a remarkable career in drama, vaudeville, pantomime, musical ■ comedy, and hints. She wrote' many of the plays in which she appeared and composed 50 songs * London's first sight of her was in “The Passing Show” in U’l4. but she returned many times and in IC2O took over the management of the Queen’s Theatre. She made a sweat deal of money touring with her own companies;.
