POWDER EXPLODES
THREE BOYS HURT
ACCIDENT IN N S W. QUARRY,

SYDNEY, December 12
Three 13-vear-old boys, Walter Masters, Oswald Huckstepp and Leslie Clifford, were badly burned last night when a quantity of blasting powder exploded near a deserted quarry. Another boy escaped with loss of much of his hair.
The quarry is only a small one, where stone has been taken from a vacapt allotment. When operations censed a quantity of blasting powder was left in a canvas bag in a box. The police were informed that the four boys found the bag and began tossing it about. Then one of them examined the bag and said that he thought the black, rather lumpy explosive was broken-up coal. He lit a match and set fire to the bag.
The powder exploded. There Was a low roar and a slieet of flame enveloped Masters, and Clifford. The heat scored their faces, arms and upper parts of their bodies. The fourth boy missed the full force of the flame, but it licked the,top of his head
