During the hearing of applications bv the Westland Licensing Committee this morning, the Health Inspector (Mr T. E. Schou) mentioned, with reference to certain cases adjourned from the last meeting, that ’ certain repairs still required to be done. In one case, the solicitor for the applicant guaranteed the work would be done immediately. The chairman (Mr H Morgan, S.M.) said the general experience with such guarantees was that tlie licensees often left the work undone until just before the next annual meeting. In this, as in one or two other cases, the application was adjourned for the work to be done before the license would be granted.

The half-yearly meeting of the Hokitika Drn ids’ Lodge was held last evening in the Town Hall, when a large number of member, were present, Arch Druid, Bro. W. Stickle presiding. Sick pay to the amount of £6 was authorised, also maternity bonuses. District President, Bro. Tsherwood installed the following officers for the current sixmonths: Arch Druid, Bro. W. The Lodge avas honoured by the presence of visitors from Grevmouth, Bunanga, Brim ner, Millejlon, and Blackball Lodges. After the meeting members retired to the festive board where the usual toasts were honoured.
