HITLER ADDRESSES CROWD

“FREE WITHOUT LEAGUE.”

BERLIN, November 17

Herr Hitler to-day addressed a big •fathering of peasants from all parts of Germany who assembled at the Bucke- , berg, a hill which rises from the plain near Hemeln, in Hanover, to celebrate the third annual festival of the Na-tional-Socialist culture. The celebrations began with a speech by Dr Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, who said that, thanks to the work of the peasants, the amount spent by Germany on imported food had decreased from £125,000,000 a year to '£50,000,000. A military spectacle followed, in which a “village” of a dozen houses and a church, erected for the purpose, was destroyed by bombs from aeroplanes and by artillery. “Germany is now’ strong, independent, and free,” Herr Hitler declared. “What. an experience we have lived through! Germany'is again free. No commissions have discusseed the matter. No League of Nations has had a hand’in it. Germany herself lias done it.”

He pointed, out that Germany'is in more difficult circumstances than other countries such as Russia, Great Britain, and the United States, because she' has not the room they have, and because she has no Colony. “Yet we solve our problems,” he exclaimed. “What great things the Lord has done for ns, and how ridiculous y simple in proportion have been the sacrifices. ” He spoke of the good, harvest of Unearth and of the other harvest—the Army, the Fleet, and the Air Force which make Germany again strong, and he added: “We want to thank the hundreds of thousands of women who have jriven the host they could give: children, the finest of all harvests. In these children Germany will live

again.” In reference to world affairs Herr Hitler said: “Germany is like a peaceful island in a stormy sea. We do not want to harm anyone, but we will not suffer them to harm us. We do not need wars to cover up internal dissensions. All we wish t° do is to tullil our part in peace and quiet ”
