METHODIST QtfEEN CARNIVAL

The children’s plain and fancy dress party held last Saturday, organised by the “Princess Arlene” committee, comprising Mesdames T. W. Duff, L. L. Ross, L, Lawther, W- Ashley and Miss ! B. Knight (secretary) proved an unqualified success, there being an overflowing attendance of chidren and adults. A bright programme was given, includ-, ing a ballet by Shirley Ross, Jean M c * Manaway, Norma Steele', Iris Henderson, Audrey’Furness. Pupils of Miss A. Ashley, dance and recitation, Shirley Andrews; recitation, Nancy Ede; dance duo, Jean and Viv. Heenan ; Recitation Jack Ashley.'The judges, Mesdames St. George, Caldwell, Mclntyre and Diedrichs had a difficult task in awarding the various prizes, the awards being:—lan Ross (Pioneer), Mane Menzies (Eastern Lady) Norma Steele (Rose), Jean McManaway (Love in the Mist), Lloyd Dowell (Clown), June Wilson (Dwarf), Raymond Parker (Postman), Bryant Boyd (Rajah), ‘Master [Liddicoat- (Folly), PatvL’ittle (Old Time Digger), Barry Lawther (Rabbit), Ronnie Sare (Dutchman), Audrey Staines (Xmas Tree) June James (Gretchen), ' Annette Furness (New Moon), Pat Boss ' 7 (Cook), Betty Howat (Italian), Joy Staines (Mascot) Alison Howat (Strawberry), Elizabeth Page (Pierrette), Margaret Brown (Indian Squaw), ! Noel Parker (Mdjor), Shirley Andrews ; (Puck)V Dorothy Woolhouse (Carrot), D. Chinn (BrasSo), Alison Perry (Powder and Patches), Arlene Ashley (Hawaiian Lady); Joy Goodfellow and Alva McArthur (Gipsy Bride and Bridegroom). Jack Ashley (Puss in Boots). During the afternoon Rev A- Can and Mr L. Lawther as the Monkey I Man and Peanut King respectively, .proved highly successful entertainers. Before the presentation of prizes', afternoon 'tefC was served and the most .successful function in connection with : the Queen Carnival Contest was (brought to a conclusion.

CONCERT AT -HUMPHREYS A most successful concert in support of Princess Lorna, one of the contestant* for the Queen Carnival m connection with the forthcoming Methodist Church Jubilee was held at Humphreys on Friday evening. Items were contributed by" Mrs Findlay, Misses D. Stopforth, L. Olsen, M. Bradley, M. Robertson, P. Lewis, June and Viv. Heenan, Joy Goodfellow, P- Guthberlet, SDowell, D. Hagar, A. Ashley, F. Campbell, Mr T. Stopforth and Masters Ashley and Kilcullan.

Two very pretty dances -were given by Miss Heil’s school pupils. The programme was arranged Iby Miss Eileen Moore, who also was accompaniste. Mrs Olsen and her assistants entertained all present at supper.
