OBITUARY
HON. J. G. COATES’ MOTHER (Australian Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 13. Advice was received at the office ol the .Minister of Finance to-day that Mrs Edward Coates, mother of the Minister of Finance, tlie Rt. Hyn. J. G. Coates, died at 9 a.m. at her home at Matakohe, Kaipara. The late Mrs Coates, who was a daughter of thy late Hr Thomas Aitken, ol Christchurch, was 84 years of age. Although she never took a personal part in political affairs, she was well-known in her own district, and took a keen interest in the political life of her son.
