N.Z. LADIES’ TEAM DEPARTS. (Per Press Association, Copyright). 'WELLINGTON, July 12. A civic farewell was given the mem-, bers of the Now Zealand ladies hockey team, which left by the Mararna for Sydney to-day. Councillor M. E-1 liiiokie, on behalf of the/ Mayor, congratulated the members of the team ou their selection, and extended them good wishes for their tour of Australia, remarking that this was the first overseas trip to be made by a ladies’ hockey team.
Mrs Poult-on, manageress of the team, expressed the hofie that tfie team would uphold the high traditions of New Zealand teams in other fields of sport. Mrs Gilfedder, on behalf of the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, said that she thought the selectors had chosen the team well, and that the team would uphold New Zealand’s repul tation just as .the men ha'd 'done. As tins was the first overseas trip made by a New Zealand women’s hockey team it was probable that the players would encounter different types of play from that in New Zealand, and that hockey here would therefore benefit greatly.
