RUGBY LEAGUE
BUYING PLAYERS. A DENIAL GIVEN. (Per Press Association, Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, July 9. An emphatic denial that Rugby League interests in New Zealand - had approached Rugby Union players with monetary offers to try to induce them to join the code, was given at a meeting of Canterbury Rugby League last evening. ft was also denied that a majority of the Union players who had come over, were only ol moderate playing standard. The chairman, Mr W. S. E. Moyle said tile New Zealand council bad not approached any Union players. Mr IT. G. Miller, visiting secretary of the- Australian League Board of Control, had had no authority to do so, as it was propaganda against the league code. It was reported that Nepia had been offered £2OO to play League and he was satisfied the latest report was a case of more propaganda.
