SERIOUS FLOODS
! WAIRARAPA VALLEY INUNDATED , (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) MASTERTON, July 8. Following on heavy rain this afternoon in the Bush district, serious flooding has occurred in the Ihuraua Valley- , . - A settler states that for about eight miles the Valley was turned into almost one sheet of water : from hillside to hillside. It is said that the water is now two inches higher than was the .flood of May 23, which was the highest flood for 27 years. Although one or two houses are surrounded by water, none are likely to bo invaded. All of the stock has ibeen removed to safety. The rain was particularly heavy from noon to 7 o’clock this evening, hut it has now eased off. The water in Ihuraua stream flows ultimately into the Manawatu river reaching the sea at Foxton. Flood waters are also over the road near Kopuarnngn. but this is nbt unusual. Elsewhere in the Wairarapa district although lipavv rain bas been experienced, no floodi n g of any account is reported, and the rivers are not abnormally high.
