CASH & JEWELS RAID ON U.S. GAMBLING LAUNCH (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy r igh t.) (Received this day at 10.45 a.m.) LONGBEiACH (California) July 9. Five pirates, carrying chains, revolvers, rifles, and sawu-off shotguns, board the luxurious gambling barge. Melite Carlo, anchored eight miles off shore. They chained the sleeping crew and escaped with what Ed Turner, the owner, claimed was 22,000 dollars cash, and 10,000 jewellery, left as security by patrons. The pirates came alongside in a fishing boat during a fog.
