AUCKLAND DEATH MYSTERY

(Per Press Association, Copyright)

AUCKLAND, June 6

The discovery of a bundle of feminine clothing in the Tamaki RiveD at Paumi're, an incident which, conceivably, has an important, bearing on the mystery of the unknown woman whose 'body was found last Sunday, was reported to-day. The articles Were Keen about four weeks before the body was recovered, a circumstance which agree with the supposed length of time since the tragedy occurred.

Clarence Smith, of Panmurc, and John Anderson, of Mount Wellington, 15 years of ago, came across a floating bundle in the Tamaki River a fe"‘ hundred ya v ds up the stream from Panmure Wharf, whore the woman’s body, which was unclad, except for a singlet, was found- They said to-day that they were fishing when they found tile articles, which woi'o examined casually.

Although they were uncertain concerning the date of the find, they definitely recollect observing a dress, a stocking, piece of a travelling rug, and other garments. These were wrapped in a woman’s outer c,oat, and were tied with a strin .of green Has.

Tho boys accounted for their failure to remember the date 'because* of their frequent fishing trips in the vicinity and the number of public holidays at that time. The boys attached no importance to their discovery, thinking the clothes had been discarded by 'Maoris, and they let the bundle float away on the tide. No trace has been found of the missing Maori girl, Mary Raymond, who was last seen in the city on Myy 1.
