At the Magistrate’s Court this morning before Messrs Jeffries and Benjamin, Justices, a young man was charged that at Christchurch, with menace, did demand from Joseph Cox Taylor, the sum of £25, with intent to steal same. On the application of Sergt. C. J. King, a remand was granted till Wednesday next. Bail was allowed, self in £IOO and two sureties of £SO each.

An accident happened to Mr J. B. McCallum on Wednesday night, when lie was proceeding by ear to Kokatahi from Hokitika. He had just got on to the Knnieri river bridge at Ness’ Creek when the car swung round, and broke away the side posts, but, by almost a miracle, the back wheels stopped on the guard rails and the car hung suspended on the wire fencing of the bridge, without toppling into tlie creek. The driver was able to get out without injury, but it wa-s a matter of some difficulty to get the car back on to the bridge.
