Extensive damage resulted to a Sports Avian aeroplane owned by the Auckland Aero Club when the machine struck a fence as it was about to land at the Hobsonville air base earlier in the week. The machine was piloted by Mr Aubrey Breckon, of Waimana Avenue, North-cote, who had as -a passenger a mechanic from the '.Manger© aerodrome, but both occupants fortunately escaped injury.

Christopher Briscoe, employed by the public Works Department while at work yesterday had his left leg broken by a log rolling on it. He had to be carried on a stretcher from Smoko, a distance of five miles, and was met on the track by Dr H. Hutson. of Blackball. The Westland County Council lias had a. new work carried out on tinLake Ivanieri road highway. The bridge at Black Creek became necessary for reconstruction, but in boil of a new bridge, a drive has been put in the solid and the water diverted through a tunnel. This has enabled the former deep creek to be filled in, making a solid roadway. The approaches have been widened and the alignment of the road improved, thus completing a useful improvement to the road generally, and a benefit for traffic.

Registrars of electors throughout New Zealand are now sending letters by post to all persons whose names are on the Parliamentary rolls, the questions put to each being in effect, “Bo you still reside at the address given on the roll? If not, wliat is your present address?” This method of purging the rolls is being adopted for the first time since enrolment was made compulsory. In 1929, after the 1928 General Election, inquiry notices were sent to all who had not voted. That was not done after the last election. Now the department is doing the purging beforehand for the coming election.
