COMMENT BY PRIME MINISTER.

(Australkm Press Association.)

(Received this day at 12 noon) BRISBANE, December 10,

The Prime Minister (Mr Lyons) re vealed that Llie Commonwealth Government bad guaranteed Uhn’s expenses on his trans-Pacifie flight to the extent of about £BOOO, The Government decided to guarantee part of his expenses, pnlrtly because the airmail was anxious to demonstrate tli c success of his British plane. Ulm had everything planned carefully, to that success seemed reasonably sure. In the circumstances it was deemed desirable to guarantee his bank overdraft. The Commonwealth Bank financed Ulm, and Ulm lodged his insurance policy for £l*6,ooo', only £SOOO of which will be collected if his life is l° s l side Australia. “This is only a formal proceedure, ” added Mr Lyons, “for no Government would think of seizing his insurance if Ulm lost his life, and if h e succeeded lie will have financial resources of his own upon which to draw.”
