CUSTOMS REVENUE

DUNEDIN’S INCREASE OF £IO,OOO ; i. .} f : i .

(Per Press Association—Copyright),

DUNEDIN, November 30.

An increase of £IO,OOO in the customs revenue collected at the port of Otago during the past month, as compared with the figure's. for November of last year, is largely. explained by the arrival of a greater amount of

shipping. There has been a decrease in the amount of beer duty paid, due to the fact that five collections were mad® during November of last year, and only four in the past month, the rule of the Department being to make collections each Monday. Indication of an improvement in business is provided in the amount of sales tax paid, an increase of £3OOO on the ’ figures for the • previous month being shown in the return for the month ended

yesterday. The amount of duty collected during the past month compared with the returns for November of last year are as follow.:

Vital statistics for Duttedin district for tlie month of November, with com.,' parative figures for November, in parentheses, are as follows:—Births (129); deaths 59 (73); marriages 24 (63).
