PASSION PLAY
PARADE AFTER SELECTION. CLAD IN NAZI UNIFORMS. OBERAMMERGA.U, October 25. Jewish parts in the 1934 revival of the famous Passion Play will not be affected by Nazi anti-Semitism, according to a statement issued by Dr. Goebbels, whose Department of Propaganda and National Enlightenment has taken over the direction of the production. It is explained that changes in toe characters wi.ll not be necessary, as the events • “occurred'• [such a long time ago.”
Nevertheless, Herr Hitler’s hand is plainly visible in the selection of actors and actresses, at which the Bavarian Minister, Herr Esser, presided. Subsequently, Herr Esser took the salute from'the actors, who marched past in Storm Troop uniforms, their appearance being rendered the more incongruous by their long beards and hair grown in preparation for the revival,.
Alois Lang was elected to play Christ and Anni .Rutz, who recently has been working as a domestic servant in England,, will again represent the Virgin Mary. . ■ ,
