THE ESTIMATES
In the estimates, the expenses of the 'Customs 1 Tariff 'Commission /are provided for by a vote of £2OOO. An item of £23,050 i s , voted > to cover the cost of -railway passes and concessions to < • Members and exMembers 'of /the /Legislature, their families and 'relatives.. The -actual cost last year £23,759. 111 addition to this year’s allowance, there is a provision for £1375, for railway sleeping -berths for which £I6OB was spent last year. A sum of £llOO is provided for the maintenance and protection of- New Zealand’s freehold property No. 429, The Strand. London, and £9OO house allowance to the High -Commissioner.
The visit of the Australian Trade Delegation to New Zealand is covered by the appropriation of £4OO. ■ Other e.\peT)Sp s entailed- are those of delegates to the Disarmament Conference (£600), and delegates to Geneva (£750). The usual sum of £2OOO refund . to the Post Office for the difference between special and 'ordinary telegram Tates for members, .was provided for. It i s proposed to vote £7oo' to meet half the rates allowed members for telephone services. On •this item £l7O was expended last year. New Zealand’s ■ proportion of tho Secretariat expenses of the ' League of Nations for the year ended December ?1, 1932, requires an appropriation of £IB,OOO.
