WRESTLING

BOUT AT WELLINGTON

(Per Press Association — Copyright.)

WELLINGTON, May 22.

Pressing Jack Patterson’s neck hard on the ropes, and then heaving him over and dumping him, half conscious, on the edge of the ring, “Big Bill” Beth won his first Wellington wrestling bout in the Town Hall this evening. He had previously been awarded a penalty fall in the second round, which Patterson equalised with a press in the fifth round.

The contest was bitter, but slow, both men earning the disapproval of the crowd with their ponderously rough tactics. These-included slapping;. punching, and jabbing with the knee and elbow. The bout went seven rounds. Patterson weighed I4st and Beth 16st 21b.
