AUCKLAND, October 13. Six men who were arrested on Wednesday in a Chinese fruit shop in Pitt Street appeared in the Police Court charged with being found without .lawful excuse in a common gaming hoi.se, while a seventh, Ah Hoy, aged 35, was charged with keeping the premises ac a common gaming hou-e. similar case, and these people are simply laughing at the law. i will deal with him as I do with bookmakers. The accused was fined £IOO, or in default three months’ imprisonment. ••He will be handy in the laundry,'
said Detective-Sergeant Kell'y, in rep’y to a remark by counsel that the area ed could not possibly pay the fine. With the exception of one man who was discharged, each of the other accused’found on the premises was fined £2 and costs.
