N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS.

LINDSAY WINS 440 YARDS.

The final sessiojn of the New Zealand Senior Swimming Championships was held to-night in the presence of a record gathering. Throughout the Championships the weather has been perfect, and the patronage of the public has been splendid. Chief interest to-night centred in the men’s 440vds Championship and in the ladies’ 220yds Championship, for on the result of these rested me fate of the Yaldhurst Shield. Resluts :—<

Ladies’ 220vds Championship (holder, Miss E. Champion, Auckland)— Miss M.. Farquhar (Auckland) 1; Miss P. Robertson (Auckland) 2; Miss JN". Stratton (Auckland) 3. Also competed: Misses S. Campbell (CanterM. Mathieson (Otago). "Won by a touch. Time 3.0 2-5. Miss Farquahar led to the last turn, where Miss Robertson drew level. A great struggle ensued over the last 20yds, Miss Farquhar just getting home first, with Miss Stratton a foot, away tim'd. Men’s 440yds Championship (holder, G. Bridson, Auckland) —D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury) 1; G. Bridson (Auckland) 2; (A. T. F. Stokes (Canterbury) 3. Also competed: D. Held (South Canterbury), Won by ten yards. Time 2.32 35, Bridson was the early leader, he having an advantage over Lindsay up to 250 yards. Lindsay drew level at the 300 yards mark, and putting up the pace, opened up a good gap. Bridson made a good effort to reduce the gap, but failed to make up any leeway.

Ladies’ 220yds Breaststroke Championship (bolder, O. Pidgeon)— Miss M. O’Meara (Auckland) 1; Miss N. Webber (Wellington) 2; M. Mathieson (Otago) 3. Also competed: V. Berry (Canterbury) Y. Sfcotter (Southland). Won by seven yards. Time 3.43. Miss Mathieson was the early leader, but Miss O’Meara went to the front at the second lap, and she was not thereafter headed. Miss Mathieson finished two yards behind Miss Webber.

Flying Squadron, 500vds.—Canterbury (D. P. Lindsay, A. T. Stokes, E. McConville, I>. H. Symes and A. I. Dalton) Ist; Canterbury B. 2nd; South Canterbury 3rd. Won by ten yards. Time 5.20 3-5

Water I)olo Championship, Final— Canterbury A. 4, Otago 3. Men’s Diving Championship (holder, H. E. Walker, Otago—R. C. Calder (Otago) 1, H. E. Walker (Otago) 2, T. Thompson (Canterbury) 3. THE HOKITIKA CLUB.

SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL HELD.

Under the auspices of the Hokitika Amateur Swimming Club, a carnival was held yesterday afternoon in ideal weather. There was a large attendance and the majority of the races were productive of a good standard and close finishes. During the afternoon, Miss L. Staines was the recipient of a gold medal presented by the Runanga Swimming Club for securing the highest points at the West- Coast Championships decided at Runanga last year, and also certificates from the West Coast Centre for the 25yds, 50yds and 100yds distances. Mr M. Houston made the presentation, and the swimmer was applauded. Following are the results of the events:—

Learners’ Races.—For Boys : Davis (scr.) 1, Ballinger (lsec) 2, Cutbu'sh (2sec) 3. For girls: Miss Hall 1, Misses Huxford and Park, a dead heat 2.

Ladjies’ Race, 25 yards.—Miss L. Staiines (scr) 1, Miss M. Stunner (4sec) 2, Miss Rutland (4sec) 3. Time 15 3-ssec.

Youths’ Race, 25yds.—McDougall 1, Davis 2. Also started: Tainui, Schroder, and Scott. Time 18sec. Men’s Race, 25yds.—K. Griffon (Greymouth) 1, Houston 2, Vincent 3. Also oumpeted: Wright, Tomlinson, Bunt, Adamson, ‘Garth. Time I3sec. Men’s Handicap, 50yds.—Tomlinson (5) 1, Vincent (scr.) 2. Time 35 3 osec. Also competed: Wright 4, Garth 4, Bunt 6, Griffen scr., Houston 4, West 4, Adamson 6, Anderson 12.
