A furious battle took place at Tarpur in Monghyr district between police and congressmen resulting in heavy casualties. Mr Edward Lee, (district Magistrate), and Mr McGrath (Supt. of Police) were visiting Tarpur to discuss the situation and unrest with local police officials.

While the conference was proceeding congressmen arrived and made a desperate attack on the police station. The police stoutly defended it against the mob, thousands strong. The police eventually fired into the crowd and charged. * Eight men are dead and eight are in a- critical condition, while on the police side the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police and 24 police were injured by bricks. and other missiles.
