DECREASE IN BRITAIN,
IMPROVEMENT IN INDUSTRIES

Statistics prepared by the Ministry of Labour show that an improvement in employment which began at the end 0 f -September continued up to Clnistmas. The improvement was, in fact, greater than the figures showed, wcauso there was in many industries, notably in the cotton and woollen and textile trades, and in coal mining, a fuller amount of employment for those who were working. It is estimated that in the four we.ks ended December 21-st., the total number of insured workers actually in employment in Great Britain rose by 82,000. An improvement occurred in 74 nlu of the 101 industry groups in which the statistics are analysed. During 1001. the total number unemployed in the cotton industry was almost half.
