One of the principal effects of the threatened financial chaos in Chicago, as cabled on January Ist, appears to he approaching in the form of the closing of public schools. Hundreds of thousands of citizens are protesting against this contemplated disruption of the children’s education. Many schools already have closed. The officials'ar e making frantic efforts to reestablish the city’s credit, but with little success ns yet. Two important radio stations, however, announce plans to broadcast a wide variety of lectures over the air to replace the classroom work for the Elementary and Junior High School pupils, if it proves necessary.
