POSITION IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, August 7. According to the secretary of the Auckland Engineers’ Union there are 103 members of the union out of work. In addition, some engineering shops are working half-time, he said, their hands being employed in alternate weeks. Over 1000 men were affected by this scheme and their wages averaged £2 9s fid. The .secretary declared that in the last few months there had been considerable dumping of farm machinery in New Zealand and that the Public Works Department had gone to America for top dressing machinery which could have been manufactured in the Dominion and at a lower price.
