A COLLISION

BETWEEN MOTOR CYCLE AND OAR.

THREE MEN INJURED

A collision took place yesterday evening about 6.20 p.m. at a bend in the road leading from the Arahura railway bridge into the straight to Toker’s Hotel. A motor car driven by William Gordon Eddie, aged 19 years, with Leonard Pethcrbridge and Edward Brown, all *'Of Greymouth, was proceeding from Hokitika to Greymouth. At the corner mentioned they met a- motor cycle coining towards Hokitika, the driver being William Mills, of Ruatapu, with a pillion rider, Thomas Howard, of Fitzherbert Street, Hokitika. It is alleged that the motor cycle was on tho wrong side of the road, and practically a head on collision took place. Mills was thrown away to the left while the pillion rider, Howard, was thrown-. over the mudguards of the car and landed on his head on the running board. The windscreen of the car was broken and EdwardBrown, one of the occupants, received facial injuries from the flying glass. When the motor car pulled up the motor cycle was underneath, it, badly smashed up, while the car was considerably knocked about. Passers-by soon after gave the nedossary assistance and two men were removed n oars to the hospital, while the ambulance had to be requisitioned to carry . in the third one, Mills. On enquiry this morning we were advised that Thomas-Howard, senior, has a large wound above the left eye exposing the bone, with considerable concussion of the brain, a wound on the right leg l>elow the knee exposing the bone. His condition is serious, and it will mean a considerable time before recovery.

William Mills had his left'hip dislocated, badly bruised on right arm and abrasions of the face. There is no anxiety as to his recovery though the dislocation will take some time.

Edward Brown received superficial cuts about the head and slight concussion. His condition is not bad.
