During the course of his remarks at the 21st. anniversary celebrations of the Dunedin Public Library on Monday night, the Mayor (Mr R. S. Black) expressed the opinion that if Dunedin charged as much for electric power and • lighting as Wellington did. it woud be a rateless city. In explanation oi this statement Mr Black pointed out that if the charges for electric power were as high in Dunedin as they are in Wellington, the Electric Tower and Lighting Department would show a profit of £220,000 every year.
