MR POLSON’S REPLY. WHO WAS INSOLENT ? .By Telegraph, Per Association.^ DANNEVHITCE, Dec. 5. An incident between Mr Poison, M.P., and the DnnneVirke County Council over the payment of Is 2d for a telegram sent “collect reply” to Mr'Poison for information, was concluded to-dav, when the amount in dispute was received from Mr Poison with the following covering letter to the Council’s lady clerk. “Your former communication could be forgiven on the ground of ignorance, hut your last is insolent and shows plainly that the slight nut upon me was intended. Let me correct you. Members of Parliament do not get their telegrams franked, and the stampage allowance does not pay my bureau calls. I fail to see what my salary has to do with the matter. You receive a salary as clerk of the Dannevirke County, hut you woulu certainly resent it if I sent you a collect telegram dealing with County matters.” The County Chairman (Mr A. Galloway) defended the clerk against the charge of insolence, saying: “I think it is Mr Poison who has turned insolent.” Other members strongly resented the attack on the County Clerk, and Mr Poison’s letter was received.
