ASK £50,000 MORE CAPITATION. ;By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. October 3. A big deputation waited on Sir Joseph Ward to-dn.v. representing School Committees and other educat‘oll bodies, requesting an increase in the capitation grant. It was stated that nothing less than £SO 009 would he sufficient to meet their requirements. Sir Joseph Ward said that his trouble was to find the money. He •ecogniserl that the Committees were doing valuable work, and that they must not be called upon to put their hands into their , own pockets, or to everlastingly appeal' to the people for nionev to enable them to put the schools in order. The Prime. Minister was sympathetic with the deputation and dismissed it with an assurance of Miis. In reply to a question from Mr R. Semple as to whether there was any -dimmer of hone. Sir Joseph Ward said he would see if there was a possibility to set aside an additional sum. If he were able to do this, he would make provision in the Supplementary Estimates.
