HOKITIKA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB

.ANNUAL MEETING. The annual!; meeting of the above Club was held at ( the Municipal Bathsat 8 o’clock last’.evehing. There were present: Messrs' D. J; Eivans. (President), IT. M. Houston (Captain), .M./ Houston Junr. (Secretary), T. Gillooly,. R. Whiley, R. Lynn, W M. Beilgamini, and W. J. Andrews (Caretaker):. Apology was made for the absence of Mr A. Lawn. ■ !•.>,!, The Secretary presented a statement of accounts for the year, showing that the revenue practically balanced the expenditure, which was unduly high, due to the repairs and overhaul of the baths and conveniences. There were accounts pwing to the amount of £lB. The principal expenditure was £lls on attention to the concreting of the bath, towards which the Borough Council kindly contributed £SO. The Club’s credit balance and all available revenue, after deducting expenses and maintenance went in repairs to the stands,, seating and dressing rooms etc. The report referred .to the visit of the lady champions and the success attending their efforts in instructing young swimmers. The carnivals had been very successful, that of ’the; visit of the lady swimmers being the most successful, hut forty per cent.- of the amount had to he paid to the New Zealand Swimming Carnival to assist in defraying travelling expensed. The season as a whole,-despite'the shortening of the summer- ' had been ,a very successful one, andj jthe Club, had. .fulfilled a very useful purpose. The officers of the Club were reelected, excepting Messrs Stavelev and King, who hfid left the district. Mes ,r s H. M.. Coulson, J. Turner, E. W. Heenan, A'. Thomas and R. Thompson were nominated to the Committee. The subscription, members and season tickets were fixed at the same rates as last year, > .It was resolved to open, the seas :n oh Saturday, November 2nd., and iiolu a juvenile carnival on Saturday, N< v ember 30th. It was mentioned that this year • there would be a larger entry for the Newman Oup Competition, and the hopb was expressed that the Competition among school teams would he revived for the Evans Shield for life-saving drill.

A letter was received from the Lyall Bay (Wellington) Surf Club indicating a proposed visit to the Coast about February, and offering to put .on. a programme at Hokitika Baths during the visit. The offer was '.appreciated; and it. was decided -to write in .’resi.°hi : to further particulars with a vie.w to accepting the offer. V; A circular was received on behalf of Ryan and Greer, Australian swimmers, who would be visiting the , Dominion under the auspices of-the Swimming Council for. the purpose of encourages swimming, and offering to •make' an appearance at Hoitika. The matter was favourably considered, and it was resolved to suggest the local visit be fixed for tlie Christmas holidays. » The report of Miss Stockley on the visit of the lady champions to Nelson, Coast and Canterbury districts, was read and several suggestions made in respect to future visits approved. The matter of more extended stays at the swimming centres to give fuller time for instruction was specially approved, it be in gremnrked that as a result of Misses Stockley, Miller and Hood visiting Hokitika much valuable knowledge was acquired locally by the younger swimmers.

Improvements to the water supply for the baths were approved, to he attended\to at once,'and the Secretary was authorised to issue new season tickets as soon as possible. Other general matters were discussed ; arid the meeting concluded at 9 o’clock. '
