FOUND DROWNED. By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. CHRISTCHURCH, September 27. Tlie body of a man, 80 years of age, was found on the beach at Sumner this morning and identified as Theodore Gunderson, a widower, and old age pensioner. It had evidently been in; the water overnight. • BOBBY CALF DEPUTATION. WELLINGTON, Sept., 27. When a deputation from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals waited on the Hon. G. Forbes to-day, in reference to bobby calf business, Dr Renkes (DirectorGeneral of Agriculture) said the age limit of five days was being much more rigidly’ enforced this year and jthe . conditions generally had been much improved. The trade had been given a lot of attention by the Department. Every effort was made to have calves dealt with as quickly as possible. Everything was done to sea that .they’ went through the minimum of sufiWing. ‘The Minister said lie was sure the officers of the Department would cooperate with .the Society to see that no cases of cruelty ocourred., The whole question would be investigated. LAND DEALS. GISBORNE, Sept. 27.. Two further land deals are reported. One affecting Anaura Station of f>(T)O acres, part of F. Hall’s estate,' (with 9000 sheep and 800 cattle, the price paid for the native stock and improvements being £40,000. The other is a freehold property of 1500 acres at Tolaga Bay and changed hands at £lO per acre. MOTOR UNION. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 27. At the annual meeting of the South Island Motor' Union held this morning, A. C. Harley, presiding, the Union approved of the new type of railway whistle recently tried out.i The election of officers resulted':—President, A. E. Amell, 'M.P.; Vice-Presidents,. H. C. Harley and J. L. Passmore.
