When starting the municipal lorry early this morning, it back-fired and ignited the petrol, and in endeavouring to suppress the flames, W. McDonnell was severely burned about the arms. The lorry was destroyed. POLITICAL. WELLINGTON. Aug. 15. The United Party announces Thomas Loc-hhead, of Tepuna, as a candidate for Tauranga, and J. M. Turnbull, olf Glenmassey, for Raglan. PIG BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION. • PALMERSTON X., Aug. la. A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Pig Association considered a letter from the National Pig Breeders’ Association, England, relative to the ban on the export of purebred stock. The letter pointed out the establishment of a guarantee station in London provided precautions against the introduction of foot and mouth disease, but so far South Africa and Rhodesian only agreed to accept stock via the quarantine station. It was' decided to write the Department of Agriculture asking in view .. of the establishment of such a station if it would not he possible 'for breeders in the Dominion to import pigs C. from Great Britain.
