ONE-STEP AT THE GUILLOTINE.
PaTUH. .June 28. Two men, Montagnon and AUier, were guillotined to-day at Montbrison for the murder of Allicr's uncle, a rich, retired farmer, whom they had robbed and killed, throwing his body into a cellar. Montagnon, who had been very violent since his condemnation, hurled insults at the Public Prosecutor, who told him that the morning for tlie execution had arrived. Despite the fact that his feet were hobbled lie danced a one-step as lie approached the scaffold and shouted to the gendarmes to put their rifles down. The knife fell as he was still shouting and cut his last sentence short. Allier put up a desperate fight to avoid being thrown on to the block, and it needed all the strength of the two assistant-executioners to trip him up and place him in position. Even then he threw his head hack and tried to prevent the flap which holds the head in position being put down. *
