MELBOURNE RACES. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. The weather was fine and warm for the races. There was an enormous attendance. including many from New Zealand. The going was good. Ximbela was third at the last halt mile, but finished fast in the Maiden and won brilliantly. Ximbela. who is engaged in the Oaks is owned -h\ Mi Ben Chaffer, and was ridden by b. Dempsey. Mollison, after-always lreiug prominent won the Maribyrnong Plate brilliantly, and lias now won three times in as many starts. He cost 600 guineas as a foal, and was bred in Queensland. With the first prize to-day £2052, Mollison has won £O7-51 in stakes. There was a great race in the Melbourne Stakes. Silvious, after being fifth in the early stages, won narrowIv. Silvious is engaged in the Mol bourne Cup. It. has scored six wins and one second in the last seven starts. Its owner. Sir Sydney Kidman, is -at present abroad. Trivalve occupied third place_ in the initial stages of the Derby, hut ran to the front in the straight, and won easily, scoring a popular victory. it*was bred liv his owner. Mr K. E. T>. Clarke, who has also won the Derby in earlier seasons with Furious and \\ olawa. His rider, R. Lewis, gains a riding record for the race, having now won oil seven occasions. Lewis stated that Trivalve was inclined to loaf when stuck in front, but with a slight touch of Hie spurs came away again and won well He is engaged m the Cup. Yanis, who is owned anil trained in Sydney, was well placed in the Cantala Stakes, lie won the recent Epsom. Amounts won the same double last season. Jones rode the winner, and also scared on Silvious. There was a great finish in the Hotham Handicap. Bicolour finished strongly and made a dead heat in the last stride witli Eridanus,' who was bred in New Zealand. Bicolour was ridden bv .Jones. The dead healers are engaged in the Cup.
