DUNEDIN, Pel). 25. The Alethodist Conference at Trinity Church was crowded to greet the opening. Immediately after the opening exercises, lV:v. Leonard Dalby (Auckland and recently of London) was w<.honied to the Dominion as a member of the Conference. Air Dalby received a warm welcome, and suitably responded. The Revs. I*. AY. Tvniglit and A. N. Scot ter were then installed as President and Secretary respectively. The President, in his inaugural address, was in a reminiscent mood and V r ■* r expressed bis deep appreciation of help ; freely given to him during liis long and serious illness. The liquor problem and the duty of the individual—the launching of a new college scheme worthy of the Methodist Church, an appeal to laymen to help the Ministry to Gear the burden of Christian work, the urgent need of a capable and highly trained Alinistry to face and solve the problems of life, the failure of our education system to train character by the neglect of that religions training that- the Alethodist Church stood for, the highest and best education that was possible, and the .sufficiency of the ■ Gospel that Alethodism had to preach, were the points touched upon in local polities, and after a reference to the Locarno Pact and its possibilities, tho revolt of the British public against Bolshevistic principles were emphasis-
ed, when the President dealt with tho larger issue of world-wide polities.
His AA’orship. the Mayor attended the conference, and extended to tho representatives a cordial welcome to the eitv, to which ATr 11. Holland, ALP. responded.
The election of officers resulted : Vice President for 1926. Afr D. C. Cameron, jnr.. President for 1927, Rev. if. Banston AT.A.; Litt, D., Secretharv for 1927. Rev. A. N. Scotter, B.A.
