Air Pelham said proper notice should he given of the intention to cut off the water.

The Town Clerk stated that for three days previous to Easier Sunday there had been a fall of about 8 inches each day. At 8.30 a.m. on Easter Sunday there was eighteen inches in the reservoir, but at 3 o'clock it was empty, a break having occurred on the line. A general discussion followed on the

necessity of safeguarding the lino, and keeping a continuity of supply. In concluding the discussion the Mayor said that the references would do no harm. The water supply was of viral importance and mu-t at all times receive their prompt attention. VALEDICTORY. The .Mayor said this would he the inst meeting of the present Council, and he wished to take the present opportunity to say he thought the Council had carried out its work as effectively and carefully as was possible in view of their limited means. They had always given him their whole hearted support, which he appreciated. He congratulated members *>ll the work of the past two years. lie thought the town had been well served by the present (’ouiieii who had given careful attention to municipal affairs. There seemed to be an increased prosperity and the Council should move on i:i connection with the loan oi LtKIIID, and its olfeetive expenditure sh mid result in eoii.-iderable inq ."ovenieiit. They must recognise, with their small population and limited revenue, that they could not do impossibilities. lie thanked members for their support and trusted that they would again receive the support of the ratepayers at. the approaching elections.

All Coulson as Deputy .Mayor on liehall ot the Council, expressed appreciation of the good feeling that had existed betwi eii them al all times. This and past Councils had done their best for the ratepayers and town at large. The presenl Council could he proud of having - ecu red the elect ii,- lighting of the town, and the carrying of the LiitKM) loan for public works, while the present Council went out of office with a credit balance of L7OO. The incoming (’ouiieii Mould have an easy time, with prospect' ol a reduced rate, due to the credit balance and the reduction in the Hospital Board levy, lie congratulated the. staff on their good work and congratulated the .Mayor oil hi- past services in the chair and on behall oi the Council expressed the hone that .Mr Berry would again oiler his services lo the town, '-.specially as the piesent year promised to lie such a notable
