At the West Coast Rugby Union meeting, the Marlborough Union Wrote re'West Coast team’s inability to visit Blenheim to play a Seddon Shield match. It was decided to reply that in view of several players being unwell, it was deemed inadvisable to send a weak team, and that in a desire to give the Blenheim public a good exhibition this Union would request a fixture there at a later date. It was resolved to obtain from Westport. Hokitika, and Tnangahua Unions, and all others concerned their accounts in connection with the Springboks’ visit, before August 20th. The New South Wales Rugby team, on arrival by the Afaheno. was welcomed hy the Afayor and officials of. the New Zealand and Auckland Unions. The team left hy boat to-night for Whangaroi. where they play their first match on Wednesday. The team are all well and keen. THE SPRINGBOKS. THE MATCHES AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN. August 8. The New Zealand team for the first test match had a good practice this afternoon. They are a -keen lot of players, who should show fiue combination when thev meet the Springboks on Saturday. They will take a lot of beating. The South Africans’ victory against Southland (the Ranfurlv Shield holders) is not regarded as of much importance by Dunedinites. The Otago team which is not strong in hacks, but good in forwards would have given Southland a good “go.” At the same time, tho Springboks should beat Otago on Wednesday, hut when it comes to the best rrqytoh on Saturday. the South Africans will he up against a proposition of a very different kind, one that, will test both their forwards and hacks. The New Zealanders promise to prove not oolv n great forward, but a dashing hack team. It will be a surprise if they are beaten for the hall in the scrums. The weather has now cleared, but tbo ground will be heavy tor the match against Otago. TEST TEA AT CHANGES. Raddeley will not be playing hi the first test and his place will he tilled by E. Roberts. B. Algar (AVellingtou) has notified tho New Zealand selectors of his inability to make the trip to- Dunedin in connection with the first test match npxt Saturday.
